Hi,

My ageing smoke alarm needs a new 8.4v 30mAh NiCd Cell (about the size
of an AAA battery) with flat top. I'm not really clued up on
electronics. I assume the 30mAh is the charge hold value and it doesn't
matter if I get a cell with a higher value?

Anyway, any idea where I can get a replacement, have looked in Maplins
but to no avail.

Thanks

David

Its actually a battery pack, just realised, with the small size cells
inside, it is about AAA size.

After some investigation I think you are right. The batteries will
probably cost £10.00 each perhaps more, the alarms probably £30.00 but
they should be better newer techonolgy.

Best not to switch to different battery types unless you can get the exact
same voltage. I did that, and the alarm kept going off.

For the price of a new smoke alarm, get a new one. I wouldn't trust my life
to an "aging smoke alarm." I recently discovered that my 3-year old alarm
wasn't working anymore, when I heard a faint beeping sound, barely audible,
and traced it back to my smoke alarm. Humidity had corroded the speaker, and
I didn't know it.
