We got hit by lightening and now my Polaroid 10" under-cabinet tv is dead. Nothing at all happens when I turn it on. I tried plugging it into an outlet I know works, but still nothing. Can anyone tell me how to know if I need a new AC adapter or a whole new tv?

Thank you in advance.

It could be as simple as the need to replace a fuse, or as complex as the entire circuit turned to slag.

My bet would be that it is something in between.

The answer may seem flippant, but there's a lot of energy in a lightning strike and the damage done to your TV all depends on how much of that energy was channelled through it.

Thank you Steve for the quick reply.
I was wondering if there is a way for me to test the tv and the ac adapter, so I can start to narrow down the part that I need to replace. I don't want to buy (and install) an entire new tv if I don't have to.

OK, is the TV powered by a separate power adapter?

If so, you may be able to measure the voltage on the output of the adapter (I would suggest that this unit is fried).

Next, see if you can get another power adapter and see if the TV powers up.
