Unusual component identification

I am trying to draw out the schematic for an old XR 5000 stun gun coil driver circuit and came across a strange looking part that i cannot identify. The part appears at first glance to be a diode but the white band is actually broken into arrows circling the part. The only other marking on the part is the number 45. What is this device? Due to the placement in the schematic, the only thing that makes sense is a diode but the diode test function on my multimeter does not register anything.

High voltage diodes (if that's what it is) can't be tested with just a multimeter.
