I'm looking for a simple USB controlled vibrating device. I just need something like a cellphone but where the only thing in the case is a vibrator. I've found all kinds of vibrating game controllers, s*x toys, and fancy haptic devices but nothing this simple. I find it hard to believe no one's manufactured it. Do any of you folks know of one?

Yes, use a s*x device and modify it ‘if ya want’. They come in remote control too:).
However, a simple motor and a counter weight does the ‘vibrating’. So simple to make.
What’s the purpose? Or the wife wants a dedicated foot tickler?.:)

Could you just get the vibrator from a junk phone and put it in a suitable container?

Yes, but I would still need a microprocessor and a driver to handle the USB interface and to power the vibrator. I want quite a few and I want rugged ones to use as feedback devices. It would be much simpler to find commercial ones.

Thanks but I'd like something which could be easily held in one hand.

If a s@x toy is no good, what about an engraver?. Small engravers can be found for 5V. It is still a motor with a counter weight!.

I'd be surprised to find any which are USB controlled but I'll do a search.

So... You're an aristocrat?
I'm ambidextrous.
When the input is high, the motor will vibrate just like your cell phone. You can control the ON/OFF or vibration intensity through digital signal or PWM signal. The module adopts a high-quality mobile phone vibration motor; the vibration effect is evident, it is amplified and suitable as a non-audible indicator. The module can easily complete the conversion of the electrical signal to mechanical vibration

I was looking for something pre-assembled and in a nice case--not something which needed assembly and a case.

That's not USB controlled.
Universal Serial Bus (USB) is an industry standard that specifies the physical interfaces and protocols for connecting, data transferring and powering of hosts, such as personal computers, peripherals, e.g. keyboards and mobile devices, and intermediate hubs
