uv led meter strobe

hey, im thinking about makeing a strobe type light that uses a led vu meter and isnted as one of the top led's i want to have a transistor that wil turn a large led strop on and off. will this even work? ist there a better way to do it? has anyone tryed anything like this before.

any help would be much apreciated, thank you very much

Instead of the transistor use a photocoupler to trigger the strobe light. This gives you isolation and you won't have to hazzle with the (probably) different potentials of the VU-meter and the strobe.
You insert the LED of the photocoupler just like all the other LEDs into the VU-meter circuit. The transistor on the other side of the photocoupler will be off if the LED is off. If the LED is on, the transistor is on, too.
