Velodyne CHT-Q8 powered subwoofer for apartment ?

Hello Guys,

I am wondering what a good "powered" subwoofer replacement for the creative
labs gigaworks s750 would be ?

These ones look nice but I am not sure:

http://www.velodyne.com/products/product.aspx?ID=39&sid=872y917k

According to the RMS rating the CHT-12Q would be equivalent... but I always
had the subwoofer of the S750 on all low, so I think it's overkill ? (It's
also **bleep** expensive !)

The CHT-8Q looks real nice but is it to weak ??? I am just looking for a
device which can "produce" the low frequency noises from 0 HZ to 100 HZ or
so... More or less at the same volume as my speakers... maybe a bit
louder... for "hue choppers" or so...

I have not been totally statisfied with the sound so far without a subwoofer
I miss the low frequency sounds kinda !

Euhm... I also want to enjoy the coming Aliens vs Predator game to the max !
So that's why I am thinking of getting a powered subwoofer to combine with
my Denon AVR 1909 receiver ! (And gigaworks s750 satelites)

I am curious what you electronics experts think of the CHT-8Q model... I
live in appartment so sub can't be too powerfull anyway ?!?

(But I still want to make sure the sound is more or less the same as the
gigaworks s750 on low subwoofer settings ?!?)

Also this seems to be a front-forwarding subwoofer, what's the difference
with one pointing towards the floor ?

Maybe one pointing towards the floor is better so that the sound goes
everywhere ?

Anybody have any experience with these CHT-Q8 / front forwarding subwoofers
?

Some more questions I am trying to figure out:

How many connections does it need ? Can it be connected to the Denon AVR
1909 ?

I just realized I would also need a new power box for the extra power plug..
hmm.

Does it come with the necessary cables ? ;)

Apperently some setup is needed, does it have video stuff ? I don't think
so... subwoofer with video stuff seems pretty crazy to me ;)

I hope it's sound quality is good ? (Without banging the neighbours to
smitherines ?) ;) :)

Bye,
Skybuck.

Also why does it have a L and R in ? Seems weird to me...

I saw somebody mention it needs a splitter cable ? Is it not included ??

It seems my Denon AVR 1909 has one pre-out for subwoofer...

Hmm, this review is kinda surprising:

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/multimedia/display/creative-gigaworks-s750_5.html

It mentions a threshold frequency of 400 hz for the satelites.

Could this mean the satelites can only produce frequencies from 400 hz to 40
Khz.

If so then that could explain the lack in quality I perceive ;)

The first screenshot on that page shows the subwoofer actually roughly
produces 0 hz to 400 hz or so...

So I would need a powered subwoofer which can produce 0 to 400 hz or let's
say 30 to 400 hz or so...

The CHT-Q8 seems to be only 35 to 140 Hz ?!?!?

So it could be woofly short on range ?!? OH-OH ! ;)

Bye,
Skybuck.

Here is link to the CHT-Q8 displaying the low frequency range ?

I am not sure about the second screenshot... it seems to be subwoofer +
satelite...

I wish there was a screenshot showing just the satelites...

Well I have those right here at home... so tonight or so... when it's quite
I am gonna do my own test ;)

And see what the frequency is of the satelites... I would not be surprised
if it was actually 100 hz to 40 Khz or so...

But if it's actually 400 Hz to 40 KHz I would be surprised ! ;)

I don't know what the frequency range is of the denon mic but that's kinda
interesting to found out as well...

I think goldwave will be sufficient to show the frequencies..... yeah and if
it doesn't show it then I can still cut off higher and lower frequencies to
test those if I can hear them or so ;)
