Hi,

I have a electronics newbie question. I have a HP E3631A power supply
that has an "Output OFF" option that 'turns off' the outputs. Now, I
would like to know what is the difference between using this option,
and setting "0.0V" output on the power supply. Does setting 0.0V mean
I am short circuiting the inputs of the power supply ? I am sort of
confused here. Please help !

Thanks,
Vijay.

Output OFF should make the output terminals go high impedance. Setting 0V should
leave them low impedance.

That's a triple output power supply. You owe a
big thank you to John Fields for posting the link
to the documentation. Download it, print it out
and keep it with the supply.

The output on/off disconnects all three outputs
from the loads. The knob that sets a supply to 0.0
sets only the selected supply to that value and
does not disconnect the load - the other two supplies
stay wherever you had them set.
