ELT21 has TTL outputs. And the AZmicro part is a lot better than the
original Moto/Onsemi version, which is downright buggy.

AZ Micro only sells tubes @48 or @96 pieces
of their devices. So better forget them for
prototypes.

And anyone who disagrees with you is automatically labeled as a
"leftist weenie". This is no surprise to the regulars on the
electronics newsgroups. You act nice when you need help, then condemn
people left and right when you don't. I suspect that when your time
comes that a lot of people will show up at your funeral just to make
sure you are really gone.

62.5 MHz typical for a 5V supply and 50mV of overdrive, so neither
one will work. :-(

On the bright side of things, Analog devices has a nice PECL
comparator:

http://www.analog.com/UploadedFiles/Data_Sheets/699026082ADCMP551_2_3_0.pdf

Which can be teamed up with your suggestion of ON Semi's MC100EPT21
to get the OP what he needs. On Semi also has some nice PECL
comparators, but take a look at the prices!!!

The only issue I see that's left is that the counter wants to be
driven with 4.5 to 5.5V and the PECL parts want to see about 3.3V,
so an LM3940 ought to take care of that.

Well- they say LVTTL but they really mean LVTTL/LVCMOS, and it turns out
the LVCMOS does meet 5V TTL input requirements- so you should be able to
drive the 5V ACT with the LVTTL output. It's the wrong counter anyway-
he should team the 3.3V translator with a 74VHC163, another part that
easily handles 120MHz- and he can use that to drive any of the 5V CMOS
TTL compatible input parts.

Several hundred MHz.

I don't believe it with those propagation delay times they list- and the
datasheet looks funny with only single ended drive levels and no fMAX
specified.

Earl is in a design center.

That seems to be the deal now-a-days... locate design centers all over
the place... makes it easier to hire engineers.

There are now numerous different semiconductor company design centers
located here in the Phoenix area.

Fairchild WAS going to locate a center in Mesa, AZ, but fell on hard
times (~2002), and canceled it.

Anybody who is so fragile as to be damaged by being called a "leftist

learn to play the game.

They're good about samples. Hell, you can talk to the President of
AZmicro if you feel like.

They are, incidentally, a very interesting fabless operation and can
make money on relatively small numbers of parts. And they are always
on the prowl for ideas for new products. I measure stuff for them now
and then, as I have a better oscilloscope.

Only because the constraints put on us in "real" life aren't here.
For example, you can flip somebody off here without having to worry
much about physical retaliation, so you do it. In my book, that
points to what you would _really_ be like if you could without the
restraints holding you back.
---

---
By the same token, I suspect that which we call 'reality' may be an
illusion as well.
---
Particularly Fields... he's nothing but a fart in the Austin wind ;-)

---
By using my material you flatter me, but it would be better if you
used your own stuff.
---
However I still don't understand his intense hostility.

Except for dealing with leftist weenies I'm really a very pleasant
fellow. Ask ANYONE who has ever worked for me, or with me for that
matter.

---
Like that guy (at GR was it?) whom you upstaged and thoroughly
embarrassed with a technical presentation designed to lower the boom
on him?

Or the countless other times around here where you've got to insert
your BDDT crap or try to belittle others with your 'my dog's bigger
than your dog' attitude? Give me a fucking break...
---
Fields, Call (or E-mail) Earl Schreyer for instance, or qrk/Mark, or
hundreds of names I can provide... I'd double-dog dare you, but you
don't have the balls ;-)

---
I'm not interested in getting testimonials from associates to whom
you were _forced_ to be civil, I'm only interested in how you are
here and, as Michael A. Terrell pointed out, the only time you're
nice around here is when you want something. In any case, talking
about balls, what the hell are you doing flaming me from behind a
plonk, chickenshit?

Backing up from Larkin's post (since you, Michael, are normally
plonked), I only call people who are truly leftist weenies "leftist
weenies".

You know who you are...

You're the ones who think kissing ass stops wars.

You are the ones who want to tax achievers to support bums.

And those on the other side of the pond who condemn the US, yet it is
those people who are heading for a depression.

Please cite where I condemned for anything other than being a leftist
weenie... although I will admit, I don't tolerate ignorance very well
either.

As for funerals... if I follow in my father's foot steps (he's still
alive and kicking ass), I'll be attending YOUR funeral ;-)

Not me, but there is a need for a safety net for those who fall in
hard times and DO WANT TO GET BACK ON THEIR FEET.

Has your Alzheimer's gotten that bad?

If you say so, old man. Not everyone dies of old age in their sleep
so there is no way to know just how long you will be around.

Fragile? Hell, John, If I were fragile I would have killed myself
long ago. I have faced down people who wanted to kill me, till they
turned away and left me alone. I was in an accident where the first
words from the cop was "Where did they take the driver's body." I have
had several illnesses that almost killed me, including one where I lost
over 20 pounds in a week of being unconscious in a house where the
furnace went out and it was below freezing when I finally woke. It was
almost a year before I could work again after that one and I had no
insurance, or medical coverage. I've been through things I wouldn't
wish on my worst enemy.

Thanks Jim and John. I'm aware of the samples. While these
offers for samples are common throughout the industry,
I stopped getting them. Getting a sample or two makes
a prototype. Then when the prototype is useable, I
tend to hear the request of getting a few, say 5
pieces immediately. Then, when the sample was of a
different footprint or a different specification than
what is available in single units from my preferred
distributors, then I'm back at square one.
And only when the customers request or are foreseeably
requesting in larger quantities, I'm doing a series
of 50 or a 100. And then, when the small testing series
of 5 or so is running, then it is rather hard to justify
to replace a part by another one. That would involve
getting a sample and some additional testing in the lab.
In most cases, the bigger series is late before it
was started and should be available yesterday.

Not true. The Vietnam fiasco got ended pretty definitevely, and we got
drummed out in disgrace.
