I'm in a position where I need a power socket and plug that cannot be easily pulled out and waterproof. Only small, 12v of simular size the the normal 2.1x5.5 sockets. I'm picturing something like radio antenna connections that you screw together just smaller.

Just chucking the question out there to see if anyone knows of such a thing?

there are a tonne of these connectors, you need to learn the IP system of coding to get your best match.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_Code
that link will show you the basics.
In your case look for the second number to define how much water you intend this object to receive.... IPx8 will provide total immersion in water and still provide a good contact

on top of that if you look for something used on boats these too will provide water protection. there are ones that screw together for a tight fit. the issue there however is that the plug may not come apart but you should never have power cables under tension as the soldered or screw ends can come out. (rare I know but it does happen.)

depending on your location in the world someone could probably give you a link to a local supplier

Thanks fellas,

I've been searching the IP68 number, a lot of inline connectors but very little panel mounted. Inline ones here: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/261042519907?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 then I did find a panel connector for the cord so the socket would be mounted on a "dongle" if I went that route.

That looks really close to what I had pictured KJ6EAD, searching the part number yielded online supplier in US here: http://www.connectzone.com/ltwdcp-14afmm-ql6a02.html

And another forum post here specific to Australia where I am: http://forums.mtbr.com/lights-diy-do-yourself/new-connectors-look-interesting-643855.html

So they were at least available here at some time.
