Hello everyone,

I've got a PCI network card and on the card is large black component. On
the component is written the following details:

TAIMAG
HE-012D

I've been to the Taimag website and as far as I can tell it's some sort of
transformer or transceiver. Is this correct? If so, what exactly does it
do? It seems
either the output or the input of the component is connected directly to the
LAN cable. I was thinking it might be acting as a transceiver, converting
the network signal to a TTL signal.

It is indeed a transformer. Its main purpose is to isolate the card
from the network. Isolating the network from the PC eliminates ground
loops and such. It's not there to convert the signal (the PC side of
the transformer is not TTL).
