toggle switch changes state from on to off to on to off whenever you press them but it isnt a latch switch, its just a button to press where there is no on position and off position. they arent as good cause you cant tell if they are on or off!! =)

Wrong. Toggle switches can be latching (most of them do).

Of course toggle switches can latch. A typical old style light switch or machine switch toggle on-off and can have a plate indicating state.
There are of course non latching switches/buttons in almost every type. So when shopping for a switch, you need to know whether a latching or non latching switch/button is required.

light switches aren't toggle switches, they are latch switches, they keep their state mechanically.
Wrong again.
Toggle switches can and do latch.
I think you’re thinking about software/micro processor based switches like a keyboard or game controller. They are typically tactile switches.

@dragon :
  1. Your citation of bigkim100 is completely out of place. It has nothing to do with this thread.
  2. Please stop posting nonsense or you risk being banned.

Its not how I see it.
If it were a part of a mechanical computer, its actually a plastic mechanical latch, because u apply force, remove the force, and it keeps its state. and u literally have to push upward to turn it off, and downward to turn it on. a toggle action should be the exact same motion for on or off, so it needs to be a button, or maybe a rotating action.

But its only what I think, dont worry about it.

I give up!.
Please read about switches and the different types.
Toggle, rocker, push etc. All come in latching and non latching.

To me it's misnaming things by you - not keeping to established standards makes it hard to create a common basis of undestanding.

does that mean when the industry starts misunderstanding something, everyone has to follow suit with it, or they get jailed for thought crimes? :)
