I want use small solid wire but I don't know what to use. I tried a small paper clip and a twist tie wire but my solder will not stick to it. What else is there could I use other than copper wire and nothing going cost more than $5. Im soldering to a 8 pin socket for a 555 timerAlso solder Im using is called "sn60pb40 solder ra flux 22gauge 0.032" diam"

Try wire (copper preferably) not paperclips and twist ties that are usually steel, or another solder (or better stated rosin flux) unfriendly metal...

You can get small rolls of solid wire (doorbell or alarm) at just about any hardware store or Radio Shack sells a variety of wire...

They also sell some three packs (red, green, black) of 20 or 22 gauge wire for about $9 it's nice because it will also poke right into the stab lock (no solder) prototype boards, so you can use it for jumpers on those boards... The above linked wire is thin, like twist ties, the three pack wire is more like paperclip thickness...

And if you are really looking to save money, find something electronic and crack it open and salvage the wire... An old VCR or stereo for example will probably yield you a few feet of small gauge wire...

A metre of UTP cable will give you 8 metres of solid core wire. If you can get your hands on a faulty network cable, or knows someone with some scraps of that cable, you can get it free.
