What value is the yellow tantalum capacitor here?
What about the black ones above it?

If I remove that yellow one, then test with my basic multimeter what reading should I get? My meter does have a capacitance setting.

That looks like 47μF 10V.

It should read as 47μF.

The black devices are diodes.

I think one or two of theses didoes are fried, because the IC that goes above it does not work. Well I am hoping it is just one or two diodes not letting the IC power up. The IC is missing from this board but is installed on the other board I am working on.

What value are these SMD diodes?

I read C155 and A478.....I am hoping to swap with what I have which would be normal sized diodes, just need a value to work with.

I would test them using the diode test function of my multimeter first.

Looking at your better image, it's possible they are not diodes.

Well on that one which is C155 I get a reading of 1.53uF both ways with the meter. Am I supposed to get a reading both ways on one of theses? It does have that white stripe to indicate polarity.

In that case they're probably capacitors. capacitors also often have one end marked with a white stripe.

ok thanks I will check.is it ok that I get the same reading both ways?

It's likely that you'll see the same capacitance both ways. BTW, I was suggesting you do a diode check, but it appears these are capacitors. The diode check needs to be done both ways and you look for 0.7 (approx) in one direction and something much larger in the other.

The 1u53 reading sounds correct for capacitance of C155 (1.5uF).
C=capacitor
15=pF digits
5=multiplier
15x(10^5) or 1 500 000 pF.
The A478 (if cap) if using the same method would be 47pF x (10^8) = 4700uF!!
Obviously too large for the small SMD component.
Thinking that 'A' could be "anode" of diode??
Except that the white band next to A (if diode) will be cathode.
Have you diode / cap tested the A478?
As "47" is a standard value, meter should show near this in whatever mode, then round it to 47.
Resistor? = 4 700 000 000 ohms = 4700 MΩ (not likely)
Cap? = 4p7 47p 470p 4n7 etc...
Semiconductor? = the A478 could just be a part number, like 1N4148.
