Getting less an less stuff though, unless you pay for it.
A a poor hobbyist, I'd like to know of a site that is as good as they
used to be.

Yeah, for a while they rocked. They've started locking more and more away
though.
I've had decent results with a google search, depending on the popularity of
the part.
http://smartdata.usbid.com/ has something, although I haven't had any luck
with it so far.
