Where to buy brass screws (for soldering)

I've heard by many that brass screws are good for soldering. In fact a friend
of mine is currently using them for soldering, in a project of his. He uses
larger screws than I'm looking for. I need very small ones. So is there a
good online source out there for various sized brass screws (not just large
ones) or other types that can be used with solder?

Thanks,

Jeff

It might help if you gave some actual sizes as suppliers may specialise in
very small stuff. B&Q etc stock brass nuts and bolts from 3-6mm, IIRC.

Or this place:-
<http://www.workshopshop.com/section.asp?prod=2042&section=Fasteners&subSection=Machine Screws>

But a Google on brass machine screws gives some 120,000 hits...

There's two types of places to look: Model Hobby Shops (They're usually
locally owned) and Hardware stores. I've seen brass screws at both
places, the hardware stores tend to have the larger (3/64" and up)
screws.

Oops - senior moment. Thought I was reading a UK group.

McMaster-Carr (http://www.mcmaster.com) is a great source of standard and exotic
materials of all kinds. They list brass machine screws from 000-120 to 1/2-13.
The usual quantity is a package of 25. Surely you can find something useful in
that range.

Oh Dave ! ... What have you done to me ? I always read the bits on the ends
of your posts, but this one has created an image that will stay with me, now
that I'm at the point of thinking that I better start hunting in the
cupboard for a new roll .... !!

I should have been more specific in my sizing although I have no idea on the
exact size I need but I'm talking screws that would be found on a very small
circuit board.

I can check out local hobby shops in the phone book but if you have any
suggestions online, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Jeff

(Thanks to the others for your help as well)

By the way, where do the hobby shops get their screws? It's funny; I produce
my own wristwatch but I can't find little brass screws. :) I need about 200
of them.

They usually get things either through Walthers or the manufacturers
themselves. (Most hobby shops can order from the Walthers catalog and
won't charge you shipping.) If you've got something specific in mind,
many hobby shops can be contacted by email with a description of what
you're looking for.

http://www.walthers.com

Kalmbach Publishing runs hobbyretailer.com, which is a halfway decent way
to find hobby shops. Call first, though, I wound up driving to the shop
owner's house (the address listed) rather than the shop itself.

Hey cool, thanks! That Walthers site has a lot of brass screws listed. I
just have to figure out the dang sizes. I only know metric. :)

I'll check out that other store list as well and try not to go to anyones
house. :) Thanks!

That's why I came here so I didn't have to drive around from place to place;
espeically when most won't have the size I want.

Buy it by the bale! Places like Sam's Club sells a 36, double roll
package, which should last at least a couple weeks. ;-)
