Which end of the diode is the input?

Hi!

I'm working on my first soldering project--building an external battery pack for my laptop:

My issue is I'm not sure which end of the diode is the input. My diodes look like these ones:

Is the input side the gray side or the black?

Thanks! Is it safe to solder the output ends of 2 diodes together? (and then solder the positive and negative wires leading to a car charger?) The instructions say to do it but I thought I'd ask because it sounds risky to me

I'm not sure about that but if out of one output negative will come out and from the other positive that would just simply cause a shortage in the circuit.

yes connecting them the way shown is OK just make sure the diodes you use are rated at 10 Amps else you are going to see smoke from them!!!

what is the type of diodes you have ? .... part number
