Sorry, is this the battery negative?
Maplin won't cut them in 2, it's 2 flipflops in one 14-pin package. QX07H is
their equivalent HCF4013BEY

Does it need to be cut in half? Curiously QX07H is listed in the index, but
is not featured on the page it supposed to be on. So, could I use a
4013BE - each 1/2 CD4013 in the circuit diagram is just one side of of the
CMOS Flip flop?

Not curious, careless. The Maplin paper catalogue has more errors than the
Guardian. It's on the website, 49p, as a 4013B (19p @ ESR) Same thing, but
could come from any maker (CD=Fairchild, HCF=Phillips IIRC)

Yes. Best to ground all the unused inputs. Datasheet

Am I american? That's funny. I wasn't joking to begin with, but once I knew
score I saw the funny side... and kept it in because so. So no, not
american !!!!

Many thanks for your help - just got to find a suitable laser now
