Why Schottky diodes in PV panels?

Can someone please enlighten me why they use Schottky diodes in PV panels as
against Germanium or Silicone?

Am using 80 watt BP Solar panels.

Probably the main reason is the lower forward volt drop, "geranium :)"
diodes also are thin on the ground and expensive.
