Will this purchased adaptor be okay?

I purchased an adaptor for powering a Casio keyboard. The keyboard is rated DC 9 V, 850 mA or 6 batteries "AA." The Adaptor has input as : 100-240VAC 50/60Hz .5a max and an output as : 8v-10v 1A - 2A.

This adaptor was supposed to work with this keyboard, will there be problems? Also, the adapter is 2mm to long when inserted but the keyboard does play.

Sincerely,
Joshua

FYI, those barrel plugs have two typical lengths, ~9mm and ~11mm. You apparently have a 9mm jack and an 11mm plug but it's usually not a problem having a longer plug unless it's subjected to levering force.

From past research I thought the volts, amps, and watts of the adaptor really had be exact or it would cause problems such as damage over time. Not true?

Thanks,
Josh

not true

only parameter that is very important is voltage ( and of course if DC or AC is required)

the current capability of the PSU needs to be at least that required by the appliance. It doesn't matter if its current rating is much higher

The wattage is just the product of the voltage and the current being drawn

W = V x A

Thanks everyone! Also, there is a little blue (led?) light on the base of the adaptor. When the adaptor is plugged in the light is on. When it is unplugged it stays on briefly and than turns off. What is this light for? And I'm assuming the adaptor will still be okay to use with my keyboard?

Thanks,
JoshuaE

I assume that the blue light is to indicate that there is output voltage. It will stay on until the reservoir capacitor discharges.

Well I have one last question for this topic: :)

I located an old adaptor with the following attributes:
input : 120vac 60hz
output : 9vdc 300ma

Will this work for the following recapped keyboard :

The keyboard is rated DC 9 V, 850 mA or 6 batteries "AA."

If so, is there any reason to not return the purchased adaptor that is :

input : 100-240VAC 50/60Hz .5a max and an output as : 8v-10v 1A - 2A.

Thank you,
Joshuae

the answer is pretty obvious ;) what do you think and why ?
what is the big difference between them ?

yes, a big reason and when you work out the difference I asked you about, above
you will see why you need to keep the new one

The amps aren't right, huh?
JoshuaE

Correct. The power supply must be capable of supplying (at the very least) the current demanded by the load. Preferably it should be capable of a little more, just so it is not running right at it's limits. If it is capable of supplying even more current, that's fine too.
