now for something seriously off the electronics topic

I have a mate who is an mechanical engineering nut and he passed this video link on to me. I know a few of you are into mechanical stuff, I hope you enjoy

worlds tiniest engine

a caption to go with it.....
"OPERATIONAL V-12 DIESEL ENGINE THAT FITS IN THE PALM OF YOUR HAND.

This is not CNC technology; this guy made everything at home on his lathe and drill press. Took 1220 hours (a year and a half?) to make the 261 pieces. Note the end-loaded crankshaft into the block (like an Offy), 12 individual cylinder heads, TINY rods and pistons, dual "underhead" cams with pushrods to rockers in the heads. And, he did break-in runs using an electric drill driving the crankshaft! "

cheers
Dave

I'd love to have this engine. I have no use for it other than displaying it and have others "WOW" over it.

isnt that the truth !!

a work of art .... it never ceases to amaze me the technical abilities of people

OHH I should clarify.... it wasnt my mate that built it, he just loves this stuff and found this video :)

you can do mill work on your lathe, not that he did, but it's been done since the early 40's.
Very interesting, I will have to share this with a few of my buddies. They appreciate hard work.

The mechanical engineering equivalent of that guy who makes triode valves from scratch!

Very impressive.

That was awesome. I thought he was going to put it in a model car. Still impressive though.

I have an old friend in Montana, and he is a Goldsmith.

He works in a jewelry store by day, but his hobby is in his shop at home.

He wears these thick, "coke bottle" glasses, and only see's things within a few inches.

He makes these tiny boxes out of gold, with hinges and latches that would blow your mind.

He is the last of a dying art!

Just like the guy that built that engine.:D

That is so cool! Goes to show just about anything can be done if a man puts his skills and mind to it.

WOW!

I was seriously awestruck watching that video.
It would take a whole lot of patience to make something like that
