The ICL8038 waveform generator is a monolithic integrated circuit that can generate high accuracy sine, square, triangular, sawtooth, and pulse waveforms with only a few external components. The frequency (or repetition rate) can be set externally using resistors or capacitors ranging from 0.001Hz to more than 300kHz, and frequency modulation and sweeping can be accomplished with an external voltage. The ICL8038 is built with advanced monolithic technology, including Schottky barrier diodes and thin fifilm resistors, and its output is stable across a wide temperature and power supply range. These devices can be combined with phase locked loop circuitry to achieve temperature drift of less than 250ppm/oC.
