The XAL 7050 Series: Applications
Due to a combination of high current handling, low DCR, and soft saturation, XAL 7050 series power inductors are well suited for VRM/VRD applications.
Typically, having low DCR and high inductance means that they can be used for voltage regulator modules (VRM) and DC/DC conversion applications in electronics like automotive systems, personal navigation systems, personal multimedia devices, desktop computers, graphics cards, portable gaming devices, mobile devices, and servers.
The components can also be used in power supplies (to stabilise the voltages required by the processor/elements), field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), and distributed power systems.
When used on computer motherboards, for example, the role of these components as VRM would be to sense the computerâs microprocessor voltage requirements and to make sure the correct voltage is maintained.
For this reason, the XAL 7050 series power inductors will make it possible for processors with varying voltages to be added to the same motherboard: the inductors can be soldered onto the motherboard, or they can be socketed into a slot designed for modular voltage regulators.
In motor vehicle alternators and power station generator facilities, the XAL 7050 series power inductors may be used to control the output of the facility. They may also be used in an electric power distribution system where they can be installed along distribution lines or at a substation to make sure consumers get steady voltage.
