Panasonic's relatively new PAN1326C2 is a Bluetooth Low Energy 4.2 dual-mode module that supports both Basic Rate and Enhanced Data Rate and certified for use in the EU, U.S., and Canada.

The new PAN1326C2 Bluetooth RF Modules from Panasonic are Host Controlled Interface (HCI) devices (UART, GPIO, and PCM) that include the Texas Instruments (TI) CC2564 dual-mode Bluetooth controller. As a Bluetooth 4.2-compliant device up to the HCI layer, the PAN1326C2 offers best-in-class RF performance and has around two times the range as other Bluetooth Low Energy solutions.

High RF Performance from the Tiny PAN1326C2 Devices

Using proprietary technology, Panasonic has been able to deliver best-in-class performance in a module with dimensions measuring in at a mere 9.0mm x 9.5mm x 1.8mm that is designed to accommodate PCBs pad pitch of only 1.3mm and as little as two layers for easy implementation. The module has also been designed to be 100% pin-compatible with previous generations of TI-based Bluetooth HCI modules.

The module is Bluetooth 4.2-compliant up to the HCI layer and the best-in-class Bluetooth RF performance includes Tx, Rx sensitivity blocking. It has a receiver sensitivity of -90dBm, an output power of 8dBm, and a power supply of between 1.7V to 4.8V. Power consumption is 40mA (Tx) and 20mA (Rx). Operating temperature falls between in the -40ºC to 85ºC range.

Module Bluetooth Features

The module is Bluetooth 4.2-compliant up to the HCI layer and can support up to seven active devices at any given time. A scatternet is included that supports up to three piconets simultaneously—one as master, two as slaves—and there can be up to two synchronous connection orientated links on a single piconet.

Multiple Bluetooth profiles are supported with enhanced QoS and independent buffering for Low Energy means that a large number of multiple connections can be made without a negative impact on Basic Rate or Enhanced Data Rate performance.

Network support is included for up to ten devices and optimization algorithms achieve maximum channel utilization.

Module Applications

This tiny, Low Energy 4.2 dual-mode Bluetooth module has a wide range of potential applications to Bluetooth-ready consumer, commercial, and industrial devices.
