Buying an oscilloscope

I was building an inverter, and started getting anomalies. I realised
that I really should have a look at the output waveform. I assume to
do this I'll need an oscilloscope, but they are very expensive new and
I certainly can't afford one.
Oatley electronics sells some cheap

ZC0339 30MHz, Dual trace. Two units included. One has faulty vertical
amplifiers and the other has noisy pots. (1 pair only) $330

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ZC0340 (USED) HITACHI 60MHz OSCILLOSCOPE: Model# V-650F. Faulty
Attenuator controls. (1 only) $150

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ZC0341 (USED) LEADER 35MHZ OSCILLOSCOPE: Model# LBO 524a. Two units
included. One has faulty vertical Amplifiers and the other has a noisy
CH2. (1 pair only) $300

But they are all faulty. Would the faults be easy to repair? IF not,
would there be some place where oscilloscopes go cheap?

**I am looking to sell my BWD 521, dual beam (Not dual trace) CRO. I seem to
recall it is 40MHz (maybe 60MHz). I'll check tomorrow. It comes with a
money-back guarantee, a full instruction manual/schematics and a brand new,
spare tube. It's a big old fella, but all the bits are bog standard and it's
pretty easy to work on, if you ever need to.

$350.00.

There should be plenty on eBay
Macservice in Melbourne sell plenty of reconditioned ones that way.
A very basic 15-20MHz one should do you fine, they can be had fully
working for under $200.

Yep, I bought a reconditioned HP184 Dual trace 100MHz Storage CRO from
Macservice for $250 off ebay. It's a really old CRO, probably 30 years
old, but I used to use one when I was an electronics tech years ago,
and it proved to be bullet proof.

I've had this one for a year now, and it hasn't missed a beat.

Regards

John
