i am looking for alternate part numbers for a cannon word processor. I know their number is 2N3906, but I may have one of another brand but I am not sure if it will work with out knowing other part numbers. Is there a cross reference guide out there.

There could be many transistors that will work for you, some are as follows BC212, BC257, BC 307, BC557. Why don't you wait until you know the other one and then compare data sheets?

Why? the 2N3906 is one of the cheapest, most widely available transistors there is.

Like BobK says, the 2N3906 is the cheapest transistor you're going to find.
That's not a Cannon part number, that's the generic JEDEC, or industry standard part number for that transistor.
You can find it just about anywhere without cross-referencing it to anything else.
