Replacing the Green tube in 5 yr old projection TV

Hi,

I need some advice. My local authorized Toshiba repair store replaced
my Green projection tube because it was arcing. Now my color balance is
off, and the picture just doesn't look as good as it did before. I
asked if it was because the new green tube was newer than the other two
tubes and the repair tech said no. He wants to come back out with the
service manual and some test equip and adjust the set further. Is this
going to help?

Probably better than beating it with a hammer.

The new CRT will look a lot better than the other worn ones, it also
depends how many hours the unit has on it, but he should have set it up
to the best greay scale, & levels of G 2, as well as checked the EEPROM
for the ABL level. Having said that, it's not going to be great, but it
should look acceptable. Dani

Of course the new CRT will be stronger than the older ones. It is likely
that it will be impossible to get good gray scale but this depends on how
worn the other two CRTs are. The tech should have checked the emission
level on the tubes and checked the condition of the phosphors and warned you
of this possibility before changing the CRT.

It is possible that the older tubes can be restored to bring the emission
level up and/or the set can be aligned to proper gray scale with the
available adjustments. It will take a tech that knows what he is doing,
however, and it sounds like the one you have might not. Any tech that would
not anticipate this situation is simply in over his head...

Post the model number. Someone might have a used tube that would match
better.

for 55H70 Toshiba 55 in HDTV proj TV. I'd love to know. Thanks, Don
