Sony Discman D-33 won't spin

Hey guys, first ever post here. I just recieved a Sony Discman D-33 from eBay and it had been working fine for the last 2 days, even today a few hours ago, but now that I'm I tried to press play and it won't work at all. All it does is make a whirring noise, spin the disc about 5 times and then power down. The screen does turn on at track 0 but then it turns off. I tried running it the power adapter and batteries and nothing happens, as well as setting the resume toggle to off. What could be the problem?

Sounds like the unit is trying to read the disc but fails capture.

Try a known good disc preferrably a bought item rather than a "burn yourself" version.

Failure there could be as simple as a dirty lense on the pickup or it's dead.
Latter not worth the bother to fix.
