i want a small joystick for my next design... I don't see them in jaycar or dicksmith catalogues.... any idea where to get one? i need a potentionmeter version rather than just a 4way switch

It seems to me those are based on some kind of pressure-sensitive resistor bridges. Idk.
Maybe this type contains potentiometers?

an item like that would be ok... but i was after something similiar to an arcade machine setup. buttons on the side not on the stick....

i am trying to wire up some wireless cameras to move up/down side-side. i wanna press a button or flick a switch to select the camera then pan it. atm its going to be wired til i get into radio frequencies. i hope to use network cable to run power and signal to the motors and have the "joystick" near my tv. i actually showed someone the design and he said to make an arcade machine box lol. screen in front of you and everything like the arcade machine lol

also if use a multi pole switch can i simply run my video and audio cable through it? or are switches not good for that?

the idea is linked below where j is the joystick and 1-4 are the switches. when i press 1-4 it actives that camera alone for both viewing and panning.

so i was thinking of using a 4pdt switch 1 pole for each motor 1 pole for audio 1 for video. i think those switches cost a little bit so if i have to i will just buy 2 dpdt switches and solder a bar accross them so they work together

yeah, sounds like you need something like an arcade stick. most arcade sticks use microswitches, but there are some analog ones. However these are quite expensive. Another option would be to try to hack a console controllers stick. do you absolutely need analog?

Analogue joysticks are also very common in model aircraft remote control transmitters too. They can't be *that* hard to find, surely.

OK, here are 664 analog joysticks.

If you pick the smallest size (19.50mm x 17.60mm x 6.00mm) you will still find a selection of over 300. Perhaps not quite as small as a thumbstick, but getting close -- do you have a definite size restriction?

i was looking at analog as i "believe" it is easier to design a circuit. I am a novice so hope not to need too many ic's. but if it comes down to it then i will have too. the reason for the pot design is if i move the stick a little the camera moves slow move the stick alot the camera is like a rocket. i am after precision thats all
