Hi Guys,

I have a usb stick which has become damaged due to dry solder on all 4 usb contacts on the pcb.

I tried to do a 'quick' fix, which I wish I hadn't done. Because the soldering iron removed two smd components off the board. I've finally bought a hot air station to replace the smd components. . But I don't know which ones I need.

I think one was a capacitor and one resistor. Which values do I need to use?

I'll try upload a picture as soon as possible.

On the board it says D*, R3 and C4

So maybe there's a diode missing aswell? It's a cheap one, so I can't find the manufacturer mark.

Hard to say without a schematic or a way to measure the missing components.

If you desperately need the data on thsi stick:
  • Get a new stick of the identical make.
  • Swap the missing components one by one from the good stick to the old one.
Alternatively, but more complex: swap the controller and memory from the old stick to the new one.
  • Read the data (hopefully).
  • Throw away both sticks.

I have two of the missing components, but I doubt anything would be measurable because they are burnt.

It's all about the data really, so yeah I'm going to try and find out where to buy the same one. Swap the components over.

If in the meantime I do find a schematic, I'll post it =D Cuz I don't understand them much.

The best solution may be to purchase another USB stick of the same type and use it as a source of parts.
