using an audio sig to operate a switch?

Hi i was wondering how I could use an audio signal from the earphone
outlet of my metal detector to operate a small 3 volt vibrator?....so
as to feel the signal rather than hear it?

If you rectify the audio with a small signal diode, you can use that voltage
to drive a transistor that drives the vibrator.

I'm not into metal detectors, but don't they give an increasing signal as
the metal comes closer to the head? If so, you may have a bit of a problem
keeping that sensitivity. A vibrator will probably go from off to on in a
narrow voltage range so may not get the same performance.

Try hooking it to those backpack thumper subwoofer base speaker things that
Jaycar has been trying to get rid of for years.

** You need to hear the tone to make judgements.

What a dickhead and another Hotmailer !!!

The point about the tone may be valid, but was the comment called for?

If you have the vibrator, the suggestion of a diode and transistor should
operate it, but I can't comment on the qualifier.

Thanks for the answers...you can get a meter for the detector but they
are quiet expensive...My mrs is deaf and can't hear the signal....so
it was just a thought that for little cost she may be able to share
the hobby...thanks

He could attach the vibrator to his dick ...
