PiMonitor v2.1 Stable — Raspberry Pi System Monitor

Project Overview

PiMonitor v2.1 Stable is a Raspberry Pi system monitoring dashboard built with Node-RED and FlowFuse Dashboard 2.0. It was created to provide a clean, local and responsive way to monitor the health of a Raspberry Pi without relying on an external cloud monitoring platform.

Features

PiMonitor provides real-time monitoring of the main Raspberry Pi system metrics, including CPU usage, RAM usage, CPU temperature, host disk usage, uptime and 1 / 5 / 15 minute load averages. It also includes an overall system health status with OK, WARNING and CRITICAL states, plus rolling 1-hour history charts for CPU, RAM and temperature.

Hardware & Software Used

PiMonitor v2.1 Stable was developed and tested on a Raspberry Pi 5 running Linux, with Node-RED 5.0.7 and FlowFuse Dashboard 2.0. Node-RED runs inside Docker and is managed through Portainer. The dashboard itself does not require Python, an external database or a cloud monitoring service for local operation.  

Remote Access with Tailscale

PiMonitor can also be accessed remotely through Tailscale without exposing Node-RED directly to the public Internet. After installing Tailscale on the Raspberry Pi and on the remote device, the dashboard can be reached through the Raspberry Pi Tailscale IP address. I tested the setup successfully from a smartphone over a 5G mobile connection with Wi-Fi disabled, confirming that PiMonitor can be monitored securely while away from the local network.

Dashboard Preview

The final PiMonitor v2.1 interface uses a dark responsive layout with live metric cards for CPU, RAM, CPU temperature and disk usage, plus uptime, load averages, overall system health and rolling 1-hour history charts. The layout was designed to remain clear both on desktop and on smaller screens.
