7 segment LED scheme

Hi all,

I'm pretty new in this area, please don't shoot
I bought the following display:
Kingbright CA56-11GWA

The manual is here:

My question is how to connect it. From Dig 1, 2, 3 and 4 I see all the segments (from "a" to "g" plus the DP), but can't see the common pin. Also don't know which pins are for DP5 and DP6 (the dots between the numbers).
It's 2 x 18 pins. Which means 16 pins (one side) for all the segments, 1 for the DP in the middle and 1 for the common. Just don't know which pin is for what.

Hi if I understand the question right then the common pin for digit 1 is pin 32,
and the common for digit 2 is pin 31, digit 3 is 23, and digit 4 is 22.
I hope this is what you wanted.

I dont see them on the sheet, there is only one DP per digit, and it is 4 digits wide...

Look at the datasheet he linked, DP5-6 are the colon for clock use...

I suspect there are multiple versions of this display, some with DP5-6 enabled others without and a sloppy datasheet that lacks this detail... That or a reversal of polarity of a few pins (don't asked what ones as it's only a wild guess) might toggle the colon dots...

I looked at that data sheet for like 15 minutes looking for those and never saw them... Im tired...

I think the colon positions on that model are left unpopulated. I see this a lot on displays. They just forgot to change the drawing.

doesnt give much creedence to these 2 guys then huh....

Hello again and thanks for the replies.

Maybe I'll talk with the manufacture.
I'm holding this display in my hand and I see the DP5 and DP6. At the end probably I'll cut it in half

You see the space in the frame that's reserved for the LEDs but there are probably no die installed.

Hi again. Yes, you are right the other two centre decimal points are not shown on the pin out.
Ether they are connected to the lower decimal point or your display has not got them.
Have a try with a multi meter set to diode test or a low ohms range.
You should be able to light the each segments up in turn. It will only light them dim as the meter will only have a small current out put.
Then you will be able to identify what is what. ( Remember to get the polarity the right way or they will not light) .
