Any god way to esperimentally determine the characteristic impedence of a backplane?

Mac, you don't have to drive it this hard. If the chip sweats to much you can
step down with a couple resistors and drive it at a few hundred millivolts or
less. With ol' TTL that gives a bit better transition times.

Hmm, that's a good point. Why make extra trouble for oneself if one
doesn't need to. ;-)

Ultimately, if the plan is to terminate the backplane and drive it at CMOS
or TTL logic levels, then a strong driver will be required. But at this
phase of the experiment, all that's needed is a fast edge.
