Bypassing touch lighting control

Hi, I'm trying to fix my touch sensor lamp -- it lasted all but 3 days. The touch lighting control appears to be broken when I changed the bulbs. Rather than trying to replace the touch lighting control (it's within the rod: a slim Proview touch lighting control reg# 301787 - incandescent only) I want to turn this lamp into a regular on/off switch.

Anyone willing to help an amateur and who could walk me through this step by step? I really have no idea (or experience for that matter).
:(

Thank you!

Have you got an on/off switch on the lamp itself, or does the lamp rely solely on the touch feature?
It's a simple circuit to bypass the touch circuitry.
Power directly to the on/off switch, then to the bulb (bypassing the touch circuit).
If you don't have an on/off switch on the lamp, you'll need to put one of those on/off
switches on the cord itself. (Available at the hardware store).
You'll get more detailed info on the actual wiring from somebody on this site, when you
tell us if you already have an on/off switch on the lamp or not.
