I want to believe what they say-- that this is real, but I'm not sure
where the cameras would be positioned.

Best regards,
Spehro Pefhany

Looks to me some of the lady's close-ups were done in a studio with the
background projected and just some part of the mast. Difficult to tell with
the quality.
Anyway, I like the Danish girls, soo blue eyes. My new GF is Danish too, but
she weights a lot less and is younger than the lady singer.

100% real, no doubt. A 100 foot crane can be rented for just a couple
of hours, for perhaps $500-$1000. Perhaps they got it for free, if
one the guys is friends with a crane driver.

A few years ago I rented one to get some stuff moved into my backyard.
It was a SK477-AT4 (www.spieringskranen.nl). Bit of an overkill for
the job, but a lot of fun anyway. After some talking with the driver,
I was allowed to go the top, with the small elevator.

I made a lot of pictures of it. The ones I shot from the top turned
out to be a lot of short avi movies, once I was down on solid ground
again. I guess I was more concentrating on not shitting in my pants.

LOL. That's an impressive crane. Given a large amount of dispensable
money you could play some nice pranks with that, like putting a
friend's small car up on on their 10th-floor penthouse deck.

A guy in Melbourne (Australia) used to take his (I think a Bentley) out for
a roll once a year, which was about all he could do it as he had to crane it
out of his 10th storey apartment in the middle of the city.

Certainly looks real to me. Very impressive! I can't see any
harnesses, but assume they *must* be secured? Crane or scaffold
(removed for the long shots)? Telescopic lense from nearby trees or
buildings? Possibly supplemented by lightweight extension of some sort
(a small camera under remote control wouldn't need robust support)?

The driver was full of aneckdotes. In one of them, he phoned his boss,
telling that his outside mirror had broken of. And that his crane
was on top of it ;)

I've placed a picture in SED. The unfolding of the crane takes
about 15 minutes. It's very impressing to see such a compact
bunch of steel unfolding all automatically into a huge crane.

Where'd you put the picture?

You were right. I emailed Lissa and have pasted her fast reply below.

====================

"We just had a big crane for the camera and YES we were both wearing
mountain climbing harnesses as you can clearly see if you look -
bright colours!

I've met real hams - heck, I was a novice myself: WN0GJS, for awhile -
I wouldn't be at all surprised to see two hams, especially hams who
are married to each other, do that sort of goofy crap. In some
circumstances, hams can be even almost as crazy as CBers! ;-P

I've even seen articles in magazines like QST and 73 and such, with
advice on how to steeplejack a tower like that safely. :)

IOW, yes, they're really on the tower, but (I seem to not have a
player that will play the video), I'd have to hear what the voices
sound like - maybe they had a couple of shotgun mikes! :)

That is, I didn't play the video - but there's a pic here:
http://www.hamband.com/html/the_ham_band.html - hope that's
close to what everybody's talking about! ;-D

Cheers!

Holy Yikes!

How do they keep that thing from tipping over? Great big huge long
outriggers? 25,000 kilograms of ballast?

I'd be a little skittish getting out on the boom in, for example,
figure 4 or 5: "Where's my parachute?" ;-)

Thanks,
Rich

Sounds like you need to do for your RealPlayer what you did for your
WMP a week or so ago in similar 'can't view' circumstances: upgrade it
to something released in this century!

Rich (and others) might want to go here -->
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm ...if they just want
to get Real Media files working without all the extra crap that the download
from www.realaudio.com will add to one's system.
