help with a small project.

Hi all,
I'm a newbie in electronics.. but am trying to learn more these days.
i need some help with a project im trying to do in my room.
there is a swich in my room to control the light which i would like to be able to control over, through my laptop, wirelessly.
can someone guide me generally through the steps and tell me what kind of equipment will i be needing?

no need to get in depth on details, just a general overview.

any help will be greatly appriciated!
