There is no specific circuit, I use LM358 in various signal conditioning circuits as an amplifier or simply as a buffer.

There are 2 reasons for why I am searching for the alternative:
1.I am upgrading all the components in the design for negative operating temp, so LM358 should be replaced.

2.I am observing failure of this IC in most of the application. So I am searching for the replacement of this IC other than LM358 family.
What failures are happening? The LM158 and LM358 are noisy, they have crossover distortion and operate poorly above 2kHz. All problems are caused because they use low power. Normal opamps do not have these problems but use a little more supply current.

Can you post a portion of you schematic so we can evaluate your choices?

And I just assumed that the parts quoted were other manufacturers versions of the LM358.

I assumed this because the best replacement for an LM358 with a wider operating temperature range is an LM358 with a wider temperature range.

If the OP had taken the time to look at the LM358 datasheet prior to asking the question, the answer would have been staring him/her in the eye.

Even if this hasn't been done, I have to assume it was after we agreed that the LM158 was a solution.

The pattern of LM3xx, LM2xx, LM1xx for parts having higher and higher speeds is not an unusual one. Other manufacturers might use a suffix C, B, A to indicate some tightening of specs, and frequently widening of operating temperature ranges. (Let's just ignore the LM2904 for the moment :))

I then assumed that the presence of "58" in all of those part numbers was an indication that you had gone looking for LM358 clones.

And I really have to thank AK for actually looking up the datasheets to prove me wrong.

In any case, had I looked as far as the LM2904, I would have recommended it. These are now so cheap that I'm sure they use them as packing material. I know I've bought some for as little as 5c each.

I remember '1458 dual opamps from many years ago. They are completely different from LM358 because they are basically a dual 741 opamp that was released 50 years ago. The LM358 came later.

i think TL082 is identical. i used it in some circuits instead of lm358 and worked the same.
Although the pins are same in both ICs but the performance and working parameters are different. Basically LM358 Is better for power supply circuits and TL082 is better for audio amplifiers.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I will consider lM158, LM2904 and TL082. I have also found 2 more alternate ICs for LM358 with same pinouts and my requirements.
1) RC4558I
2) MC1458IDT

Can I consider these 2?

Thanks,
Chets
LM2904 is better for replacement of LM358. Other two ICs ( LM4558 and TL082) are better for audio amplifiers.
