I wish I had been following this article from the beginning as it
seems to (correct me if I'm wrong) strayed from RAHE. The voice
sampling at 44.1KHz would be irrelevant over a telephone line as
nearly all trunk and junction connections via a modern Digital Public
Switched Telephone Network are acheived by 64Kb/s digital
timeslots. Each speech sample is at an 8KHz rate as the bandwidth
requirement is only 3.1KHz (300Hz to 3.4KHz) per channel. These are
ITU-T recommendations using A-Law encoding algorithm. Each sample
is represented as an eight bit binary word. The US standard is
similar to that of the ITU-T with the exception of the encoding
algorithm which is mu-Law (sorry can't put in the greek letter for
"mu"). Given that the sampling rate for a telephony circuit is only
8KHz the arguement of 44.1 or 58KHz seems superflous ? ?

** The post is a bit over 5 years old.

Gee Phil, working out the Google search engine again are we? Posted last
century. Might as well be a lifetime ago.

On the subject of Google searches - perhaps typing in "Phil Allison" and
then clicking on the groups tab may just reveal how popular you really are
Phil. Hmmmm some 88,000 + results I believe. Most not very complimentary.
When did you get the boot Alan ???

Is my employment history relevant? Never got the "boot" from any company
I've worked for, so how about you seeing you're suddenly so interested?
** But you used to work for them and quite recently.
But your claim as of a few days ago was that I do work for that company,
which is incorrect. In fact I have corrected you on previous occassions on
just this point but you insist on making claims to the contrary.
So you consider that having worked for Telstra is a slur on a
person's character and must not be mentioned in public ??

Did I say that?
Is that the basis of your proposed suit ??

Versace will do just fine thanks Phil.

You worked for Telstra until a few years ago at most.

You spent most of your life there - right ??

Hi mate,
The picture isnt what i'd call cropped though, it is clearly distorted and
the inconsistant band on the sides shits me. Its off centre too. It'll be
going back if I dont solve it.
One thing that should say is, I remember an off centre image (not too bad
though) when I tried Cable TV years ago (same set) but no image distortion
from memory.

Hi group,
I'm NOT wishing enter the 'slinging match' side of this topic, though I just
picked up the DV-B300 for similar reasons as the OP.
I can return it if i'm not happy anyway.
Well I am happy, it brought new life to my ageing HMV tx100. I now have
great stereo sound, clean picture, extra channels, pgm info, teletext etc
and a new remote (the original was cactus)
However I have one problem and one question.
The problem is in 4:3 fullscreen the picture is a little compressed and off
side across the screen.
The question is, since I had to go STB Scart to Video/Audio in on a VCR
then RF to TV, am I likely to be losing much in quality?

Yes. Best is straight into a plasma screen, followed by AV into either a
TV or LCD screen. In fact, modulated RF into an old TV is the worst of
the lot. However, since that set will be usable for another eight years,
it's a good compromise. In the near future you could try scrounging a TV
with AV inputs or a SCART plug, they'll become almost free soon enough.

bullshitting. I doubt if you will rise to the challenge. In just about
every other occassion I have challenged you to furnish evidence from a

You're just full of bullshit and bad manners. I think just about everyone

This means you haven't been able to confirm or deny that I am currently
employed by Telstra , right? Face it Phil, you're just clutching at straws.
All talk no action. I may be working for more than one employer, but then
again I might be working for no one. Care to guess again? You could try 50
/ 50, poll the audience or maybe phone a friend. Oh sorry, I forgot, the
last option isn't available to you - you probably don't have any
friends........

You see Phil, you have a particular mind set which makes assumptions about
all sorts of things to which you have no information to back up your claims.
Let us just assume (for the purpose of the arguement) that I don't work for
Telstra which I have told you repeatedly in the past few days and of course
on previous occassions that I don't.

I could very well be in any of the following situations -
1) Working for another company or companies
2) Self employed
3) Self funded retirement
4) Mandatory retirement
5) Superannuated out on the grounds of invalidity (injury, ill health etc)
6) Carer pension
7) On holiday / furlough
8) Volunteering my services abroad.
or any miriad of possibilities....

Care to take a punt?
** You would be the same arsehole no matter where you worked - that is
true.

But arseholes congregate - so your employment is of interest.

Only to you Phil. I don't think anyone else gives a toss. A bit paranoid
about accidentally dealing with someone or some company I may or may not be
associated with? Tisk, tisk, tisk, you really do need to get a life don't
you?

You must be a bit slow on the uptake Phil. You haven't telephoned Telstra
to confirm that I don't work for then yet? Come on Phil, you disappoint me.
I would have expected you to have publically posted your evidence by now.
That's of course if you had any.......
** You were proud to show it off when it was Telsta - what is the
problem now ??

"Telsta" - which company is this?
Working as a shelf packer in Flemmings now - are you ???

Errh, who are Flemmings when they are at home? Never heard of them.
Perhaps we don't have a Flemmings in my home town / state? Enlighten me
Phil. Maybe directions to my nearest Flemmings might help.
** Shame you cannot me sue over that.

It's only worth sueing someone if there is anything to get from the
defendant in the settlement. In your case, not much I suspect.

Unfortunately there are no listings matching your search criteria. Try
broadening your search by specifying fewer details, or shortening your
entries (eg. "Thomp" instead of "Thompson").
Alternatively, access HELP for additional information.

I guess you would have to take that one up with people who stack shelves for
a living. Can't help you out with that one Phil. The only shelves I stack
are those in my own kitchen, my own fridge and the bookshelf in my library
now and then.... However someone has to stack shelves and I appreciate
their efforts when I go to the supermarket. Perhaps it is your opinion that
it's an occupation for fuckwits, but I would go so far as to suggest that
all those young people who are doing just that part time whilst studying for
their uni / TAFE qualifications might beg to differ. Likewise their
parents.

<snip all the shite and get down to business>

Who do you work for Phil?....You have given other people such a hard
time about where/who they worked for...let's see some statistics about
yourself...who do you work for or what do you do to make a living?.

The questions are simple...please provide a simple answer. (BTW I am

cerebral palsy and one of those is autistic as well...I really resent
your constant remarks about autism). Come up with answers to my
questions or shut your mouth. I bet you don't give a straight answer -
