Sony KV-20FS120 no horiz sync on Component in?

I have a Sony KV-20FS120 connected to a Samsung SIR-T150 ATSC tuner.
I can get composite video to work between them just fine, but using
component connections (Y/Pr/Pb) gives a picture with no horizontal
sync whatsoever. I tried swapping out for a Samsung SIR-T351 and got
the same results. Plugging the composite output into the Y on the TV
nets a sync'd signal, but the color registration is way off for blue
and red as expected. This set doesn't have an S-Video socket, so I'm
out of luck there. Or is an S-Video input as easy as soldering in the
socket on the board? The big brother KV-24FS120 has S-video input,
but not the KV-20. Suggestions?

Thanks!

Most likely the source that is feeding the TV set is not compatible.
Your TV is not an HD set, and will not work properly with HD
equipment, unless it can be put in a standard compatible mode. \

One test that you can have done is to get a TV tech who can test the
video feed with a scope to make sure that the sync pulses and the
video structure is compatible for your set. This would definately
prove if the set is at fault, or the source is at fault, or it is
truely a compatiblity issue.

You cannot easily add an S-Video connector on a TV set. There are some
complex circuits involved.

Sounds like the green channel of the component input of the tv is bad but
check the source box and make sure it's not set to progressive scan - I
don't think the Sony will do progressive.

Thanks, there are two hard switches on the back of both tuner boxes.
One selects resolution (480i/480p/720p/1080i), and the other sets mode
(RGB vs YPbPr/analog). I checked both to ensure the proper 480i and
YPrPb, which the manual states is proper for an NTSC analog set. The
composite out and S-video out work perfect on another set (which
unfortunately doesn't have YPrPb so I can't verify the functionality
that way). My DVD players are all old enough not to have component
out...grrrrrr. Is no sync-on-Y normal for this class of device (ATSC
tuner) or is the requirement of the set for Y sync unusual that anyone
is aware? Perhaps something in the service menu of the TV? How does
one access the service menus for a KV-20FS120?

Normally sync exists only on the green channel. I have seen rare exceptions,
though.

Sony's get service mode by using the remote and rapidly pressing:

Display, 5, Vol. Up, Power.

to display error codes:

Display, 5, Vol. Down, Power.

If you don't hit the sequence quick enough the set will turn on prematurely
and not in service mode.
