What materials could be used to filter the UV light out of halogen light but pass all the lower wavelengths?

Could salt work?

Well according to this example I found quickly it would have to filter up to 200nm, it could filter down to violet or blue or even to about 500nm approx. but this could vary.

Ok just read the second post. Maybe I'll just buy one with a filter already. Thanks.

Thanks, looks good.

I just also wondered if there was a simple diy alternative (it doesn't have to be perfectly clear).

I think most plastics will stop UV radiation, but the downside is the UV will eventually destroy the plastic by breaking the polymer cross-link bonds (photo-dissociation). You would need to find a particular polymer, such as polycarbonate (Lexan), and then find the spectral transmission characteristics to be sure.
