CD Player Faulty - says "no disk"

I have an old Sharp mini player CD-DD4500. This unit has been faithful until last week. CD player says no disk when there is one in player..When I turn it on there is a snap like hi voltage discharging! When three disks are loaded it cycles thru and then message. I cleaned laser head with Q tip, not dirty! OK, how about some help??? Thanks...B
