Hi.

Is it safe to crack open the CRT of a computer monitor?
Is there anything inside that may be radioactive, flammable, corrosive etc?

Thanks

Depends on what you mean by safe. Its gotta vaccuum
in there, so you need to take a bit of care. Best to let
the vaccuum out by knocking the end off the glass
spigot thing thats inside the pins on the pointy end.

Nope.

Is there anything in there that can be considered harmful? If there is, what
is it and how can i protect myself (gloves?)?
Its because i have a busted monitor and want to know what the insides of a
crt really look like.

Hi,
Remember their is something like one ton of vacuum in that tube and if
you belt it with something like a hammer it will explode in (implode) and
then send glass everywhere.Quite capable of causing great damage.
I would think the phosphors behind the front screen are like floro tube
phosphors and can be a problem if they get in broken skin.

Cheers George
