and now I have iphone 3, iphone 6 and ipad all charging by shorting the D- pins to the D+ pins

Yes, the Ipad likely requires different voltages on the data lines.

D+ and D- are bridged in my configuration, and all 3 devices charge correctly.

But I cannot charge my gopro hero 5....
