Hello,

Meeeee, Skybuck, has possibly discovered a new problem with air cooling for
electronics:

Static electricty could build up... because the wind is rubbing it's
electrons against the materials, like plastics and so on.

Static electricty could build up at which at a certain point it might jump
over to electronics and cause damage ?!?

Some links explaining how static electricity works:

http://www.livescience.com/environment/060417_MM_static_electricity.html

Is this a known problem with air cooling for electronics, or has Skybuck
discovered a new problem/limitation to air cooling electronics ? ;) !
WOOOOHHHHHHH Mind blowing nice =D

Bye,
Skybuck ;)

I dont know why you all hate this person soooo much, If you dont like his
questions dont answer them simple, freedom of speach and all he has some
ideas that dont win a reward or anything but that is all they are - his
ideas. I like his effort to post them. keep it up Skybuck but maybe you
should find a better place to post your ideas where they would be
appreciated?!?

Maybe its bec this idiot constnatly mistakes newsgroups with
his facebook - this is videocards-nvidia and "fredom of speach"
or not his, bullshit rarely have anything to do with the groups he posts in.

"speach" is not a word. Try "speech" instead.

I still find people to be major assholes no matter what cut the guy some
slack, not everyone can be up to standards that you all think is needed. -

What you want to do is get yourself a room humidifier. Then direct the
steam right into the air intake on your PC or whatever it is you're
trying to air cool. That'll keep those pesky electrons under control.
Hint: Salt water works best!

Or use an AC ionizer.

if there is any static charge because of friction against plastic it will be loclized in that area only. how do you expect static to jumps anywhere.? if it gets large i am sure there will be a path for it to discarge. don't worry about that walking on a carpet and reaching for you IPOD is no problem either it gets to the case only.

Indeed, it's similar to the scenario on communications satellites when
the charged solar wind builds up a static charge on the surface of the
satellite which results in some of the on-board electronics switching
off or on when it arcs over. A right pain in the butt that has been
known since the early days of satellites (40+ years)!

Long _before_ satellites.
