Solder Sucker

Can someone recommend a good brand of manual solder sucker. RS and Farnell seem to have loads. I bought one from Farnell.
TBH I paid next to nothing and that is what it does.

I have used the simple pumps as you show in the past, but I am not sorry I picked up a hollow nozzle iron type with a suction bulb, like night and day to use.
These were sold by Radio Shack in N.A.
I am surprised that no one has replicated them, (maybe they have?).
If you can find one, I highly recommend it.

Those simple solder suckers are fine for occasional use but I'd recommend you get a short length of silicon tubing to slip over the tip - saves the end on the sucker and gets you closer to the solder, making a much better job of sucking it off (giggidy) .

Their main disadvantage is they tend to pickup the pad from the PCB with the solder and all.

Use solder-wick from a good brand,
it will save your PCBs from harm and...
Will save you a lot of heartache.

This is the advantage to the hollow iron type as heated pressure is kept on the foil and only the through hole or pad is evacuated.
Never had any problems so far.

The one you posted is fine to use.
There is the professional version with "auto" vacuum as well.

I was referring to the cheap manual push button ones the O.P posted ,
sorry for not being clear.

It is a pro tool and a bit expensive but in the long run it will compensate you. I use it every day. I am happy with it's performance but if i put poor quality tip on it then it will not melt solder to suck it...

Hakko is indeed a fine brand. The ZD-985 is of about the same quality but alot cheaper i think.

Cheap Chinese pcb's use chewing gum to adhere the copper to the board.
Cheap Chinese soldering irons do not have temperature control so they are way too hot.

My pcb's are made locally and my soldering iron has controlled temperature. Then my solder sucker sucks solder, not the pads.
