I've acquired an aircooled DEK diesel generator.
This is for disasters; I anticipate no routine use.
In fact, there will also be a Prosine charger-inverter, so there may be
little emergency use.

Even with a fuel preservative, if I keep the tank topped off, the fuel in
the generator will spoil eventually. The generator is so fuel efficient, it
takes 14 hours to run out a tankful, 1.4 quarts.

Here's my WAG on a strategy:
1. Syphon out most of the fuel and discard, but don't run the fuel system
dry.
2. Refill with fresh fuel.
3. Run the generator for 1/2 hour or so.

Opinions? Is this an appropriate strategy?
How often should this be done?

1) how will you discard the aged fuel that you siphon off?
I will take it to a local gas station that accepts waste oil.

Most engines that I have worked around start for 15-30 minutes once a week.
Some with a load some with out. I like with load. Makes the engine work and
you know everything is ok.
I know you can buy additive for diesel fuel that will extend the life. We
poured in a can every 6 months for the standing engines that did not use
much fuel. Refilled at least once a year. Phoenix Az
I have heard that a sealed container will have the fuel last longer no air
no problem.
Since you are not storing much fuel this might be worth looking into.
