I've acquired an aircooled DEK diesel generator.
This is for disasters; I anticipate no routine use.
In fact, there will also be a Prosine charger-inverter, so there may be
little emergency use.
Even with a fuel preservative, if I keep the tank topped off, the fuel in
the generator will spoil eventually. The generator is so fuel efficient, it
takes 14 hours to run out a tankful, 1.4 quarts.
Here's my WAG on a strategy:
1. Syphon out most of the fuel and discard, but don't run the fuel system
dry.
2. Refill with fresh fuel.
3. Run the generator for 1/2 hour or so.
Opinions? Is this an appropriate strategy?
How often should this be done?
