Yes, it is now!!. It had terrible solder joints and the neutral popped off when I removed the PCB.
I have two, both working. I’ll check them both.

The picture ha a low contrast, it is hard to see some of the traces.

I think you have drawn the diodes of the bridge the wrong way around:

Yes, the bridge diodes were incorrect.
Well, I have checked both units. Both have approx same voltages. Except with the tube disconnected.
Tube disconnected and Q1. B 3.7V, C 330V and E 7V.
With tube connected, Q1. B 315V, C 310V and E 210V.

Same for the second unit.

Q2 on both units, C 315V. B and E 0V.
The same Ohm readings on both units as previously tested.
I don’t understand what the (diac) is doing. It’s on the B of Q2 but there are no voltages.

Hello,

It can be that the diac is only used for startup of the oscillator.
A kind of kick start.

The only supporting components for Q2 side are as follows:
R2, R5 and R6.
C5 and C7.
D5 and the D? + diac next to each other.
Perhaps Ohm out those components for a comparison. From negative of C2 and directly across each component.

I have to go out now so don’t have time.
Also, I don’t want to connect my scope to these voltages.

If all else fails, there are LED fluro type tubes out there which connect directly to the mains.
Just need to install a supplied fuse in the form of a fluro starter between both ends of the tube and you're done.

Thanks Bluejets. Yes I am familiar with those fluoro leds. Busy systematically replacing the fluoros in my workshop with them. The trick will be finding a circular one.Only if someone has started making a replacement. It will probably be easier getting some 220 V COB leds and soldering them up in a circular shape
