SP will not refer to a diode .. it's supposed to be an overvoltage protection device ... spark gap etc

putting a zener diode in there will be pointless

why zener diode wont be an over-voltage protection?

What will happen if higher voltage than the zener diode capacity pass through it

it will fail when we are talking of the higher voltages that arrestor devices are designed to stop

also, it's just not a voltage thing, it's the current as well ..... it's just a pity we don't know exactly how that SP device is "wired" into the circuit
